Week 10

It was a very exciting indoor conference meet this past Thursday at North Central. We know we have a lot to work on when we switch to the outdoor part of our season, but there were celebrations all around.

Just some of the many highlights...

Records were broken!
MiKenna Robinson finished a close 2nd to the runner from Naperville North in one of the most thrilling 800m races. Only .02 separated 1st and 2nd places! On her way to running 2:14.91, MiKenna crushed her previous indoor 800m run record of 2:20.18!

The record breaking night was not finished. Corinna Pena, running in her senior indoor 1600m race, smashed her previous indoor record of 5:12.22 that she ran as a sophomore with an amazing race run in 5:00.73!

It's not often a freshmen comes in and finishes 2nd place in all three of the jumping events (high, long, and triple) on the varsity level at what is arguably one of the toughest conferences. Riley Ammenhauser did just that! An amazing night, as she jumped her season best in both the long and triple jumps!

It was also exciting to watch Tolu Akinbo in the JV high jump and Tiegan Munar in the JV pole vault not only finish above their seeds but in first place for their respective events!

Congratulations to the following athletes who earned team points:

JV:

Tolu Akinbo 1st place in the high jump
Tiegan Munar  1st place in the pole vault
Emily Rosales 4th place in the 55m dash

4 X 400 Relay of Molly O'Neill, Annie Amundsen, Jessie Bailey, and Aliyah Gunther  8th place
4 X 800 Relay of Molly O'Neill, Grace Ashby, Jessie Bailey, and Aliyah Gunther  8th place

Weather is changing...
Although it may not always seem like it is getting warmer, we are holding out hope Springlike weather will be here soon.  Therefore, we are asking that all athletes come to practice ready to workout either outdoors or indoors. The best plan is to have layers available in your lockers each day. If we are practicing outside and we want to meet outdoors, instead of our normal practice meeting area, there will be a note by the locker room telling you where to meet.

Outdoor Meets are coming soon!
Our first all-comer's outdoor meet will be April 4th at home against Naperville North.  In order to prepare for this first meet, please sign up for this meet through this Google link.  https://goo.gl/forms/69aLBF9V7sFiwMfz1

Remember, we take away the 55m dash and 55m hurdles and add 100m dash, 4 X 100m Relay, discus, and 300m. Also, since we are competing outdoors, we suggest having a long sleeve white shirt and black running tights available to wear at the meets.

Help needed at our three home meets.

If you can help out with concessions (we promise you will still be able to see your athlete compete!), please cut and paste the following link into your browser.

Other help..
We can also use help with our field events and timing. If you can help at the April 4 home meet, please email me directly. We will need help around 4:15pm to 6:30pm

If you are interested in supporting the team activities like pasta parties, banquet items, awards, and misc equipment needed throughout the season with a personal donation, please send a check with your daughter to practice made out to IPSD 204. Plainfield South Invitational:
We will NOT be attending the Plainfield South Invitational this year. We are disappointed at the loss of a meet but will look forward to the next all-comers' meet on March 7 at Plainfield East High School.

Communication:
Please remember to always communicate a missed practice or meet. Email is the best way to get in touch with the coaches. Lack of communication for missed practices could result in a non-participation at the next meet.

Thank you for all your support of your girls. The coaches and I look forward to saying hello and introducing ourselves at the next meet.

Week 3 of track

The coaches and I have been very impressed with the work ethic at practice and the girls' communication with us.
Here is what is going on this week...

Monday, January 29th
Practice begins at 3:45 due to a faculty meeting. We will still plan to end practice at 5:00. All athletes should meet outside the Junior Class House by 3:45.

Parent Meeting: Please join us for a parent meeting tonight from 6-7pm in C204 at the main campus. We will have the president of the Booster organization here and a representative from Naperville Running Company who is also a former Neuqua Valley track and field runner!

Tuesday, January 30th
Look for two Google docs that will be sent out through this listserv.

The first is the meet conflict sheet. It is very important for the coaches to know who is available for what meet. Please take a look at your schedule and compare it to the meet schedule that is posted on the calendar that you can find at http://www.nvgirlstrack.com. The meets that are posted on the calendar also provide a description of what type of meet it is since not all athletes will be participating in all meets. Keep in mind that any athlete has the opportunity to compete on the JV or Varsity level when filling out the meet conflict sheet.

The second is the sign up sheet for the first all-comer's meet next Saturday, February 10th. Although we welcome the  athlete's input on this sign up sheet, the coaches will make the final line up. When filling out a sign up sheet for an all-comer's meet, pay attention to the order of the events that will be in the description of the meet on the form. This will help give a sense of how the meet is run, so back to back events are not put in.  Also, an athlete should sign up for events she has attended practice in.  The meet is not the time to decide to pole vault for the first time. If an athlete would like to try a field event, she should speak to the coach in charge of that event.

Practices/Practice Changes
Sprinters, jumpers, hurdlers will practice Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday after school until 5:00pm. Wednesday and Friday 5:30am-6:45am unless otherwise noted.
Throwers will practice after school each day Monday-Friday
Distance will practice  Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday after school from 2:45-5:00pm and Wednesday 5:30am-6:45am

Concussion impact testing
Impact testing will be Friday, February 2nd at 2:45pm for all throwers and pole vaulters.  These athletes will meet in front of the athletic training room at 2:40pm.  Mr. Ogren, our athletic trainer, will walk the athletes to the faculty cafeteria.  All athletes must bring their Chromebook.  There, they will be given the impact testing code.  The test will take about 30 minutes.  Throwers will practice afterward.

Uniform handout
Our uniform handout will be during practice on Monday, February 5th. More details to come.

Lockers
Please remember to lock up all of your personal belongings each day. If you don't have your own lock and would like to purchase one for $5, see Coach Casey.

Communication
Communication is so important on such a big team- when everyone is out from winter sports, we will have around 110 athletes! Please remember to send the coaches an email when your daughter will be absent or late to practice.

Thank you!
