Sign Ups and Spirit Wear

Parent Meeting
Thank you to all who were able to attend our parent meeting on Monday. We had a great discussion and had many questions answered. If you missed the meeting, I have attached the meeting notes. I have also added some information to these notes that may be beneficial to all regardless if you were able to attend or not.

Meet Conflict Sheet
Please fill out the following Google form link if your daughter has a conflict with attending a meet. Knowing if your daughter can attend a meet well in advance helps us put together the most accurate lineup. We know schedules change, so please refer to this link throughout the season.

Our first meet is Saturday, February 10 at Oswego High School. The following link needs to be filled out by Friday, February 2nd at 6:00pm for all athletes eligible to compete in this meet. Since this is our first meet, I am sending the link early, so we can work out any issues with this sign up. The athletes will be able to view the lineup on Monday at practice. Speaking of communication, we have a few ways to keep you updated with what is happening. I will usually send out an email to this listserv on Sunday and maybe another time during the week, especially when we begin having meets. Thanks to Coach Casey, we also have a website where you can access many things about the season including our practice and meet schedule. You can access that website at http://www.nvgirlstrack.com. Lastly, Coach Casey continues to remind me the year is 2018 and people like to see results from the meets on Twitter, so I will also use Twitter where you can follow us at #nvgirlstrack.

Important items to know...
January 29, 2018 is our parent meeting from 6-7pm in Room C204 at the main campus. If you can make it, we would really like to meet with you to talk about the upcoming season.

Practices:
Please note most of the groups practice after school (unless noted) on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 2:45- 5:00pm and on Wednesdays and Fridays from 5:30-6:45am until Spring Break when we will transition to all after school practices. The throwers will practice after school each day for the entire season.

All athletes should have a lock to lock up ALL of their personal items. Official lockers won't be assigned until after the winter sports are finished, so the athletes may use any open locker in the athletic locker room until that time.

Believe it or not, over the years, we have had some of our nicest weather usually seen in the Spring in January. Therefore, all athletes should be prepared with clothes to practice indoor or outdoor every day. Check your shoes. Everyone needs a good set of trainers to workout in each day. We suggest heading to Naperville Running Company to help you find the best shoe for your foot and event. We will have a former NVHS girls track and field member who now works at Naperville Running Company at our parent meeting to talk about how to find the right shoe.

If an athlete is going to miss practice, we ask that she email her coach to let us know of her absence. Parents can also send us an email. We do take attendance each day.

Payment for the season
The $200 fee for the season will be put on your Pushcoin account in the next couple weeks. If you have any questions about the payment, please email or call me.  If an athlete was involved in two sports or any combination with an activity where the $200 is charged, please send me an email stating which activities/sports she was involved in.

Physicals
No athlete can participate on the track and field team without a current physical. Please bring in a copy of the physical as soon as possible to the school nurse. Many athletes have physicals that will expire during the season. I will send a reminder to you of your daughter's physical expiration date if that applies.  We do understand that some insurance company won't cover the cost of a physical until one year has passes. Your daughter's physical is good for 13 months from the date of the physical.

First Day Meeting Notes
If you missed the first day meeting notes, I have attached them to this email. They can also be found on our website.

The coaches and I are looking forward to an exciting season!

Go Wildcats!

Week 10

It was a very exciting indoor conference meet this past Thursday at North Central. We know we have a lot to work on when we switch to the outdoor part of our season, but there were celebrations all around.

Just some of the many highlights...

Records were broken!
MiKenna Robinson finished a close 2nd to the runner from Naperville North in one of the most thrilling 800m races. Only .02 separated 1st and 2nd places! On her way to running 2:14.91, MiKenna crushed her previous indoor 800m run record of 2:20.18!

The record breaking night was not finished. Corinna Pena, running in her senior indoor 1600m race, smashed her previous indoor record of 5:12.22 that she ran as a sophomore with an amazing race run in 5:00.73!

It's not often a freshmen comes in and finishes 2nd place in all three of the jumping events (high, long, and triple) on the varsity level at what is arguably one of the toughest conferences. Riley Ammenhauser did just that! An amazing night, as she jumped her season best in both the long and triple jumps!

It was also exciting to watch Tolu Akinbo in the JV high jump and Tiegan Munar in the JV pole vault not only finish above their seeds but in first place for their respective events!

Congratulations to the following athletes who earned team points:

JV:

Tolu Akinbo 1st place in the high jump
Tiegan Munar  1st place in the pole vault
Emily Rosales 4th place in the 55m dash
Brynne Winiarski 8th place in the 1600m Run
Kyra Williams  7th place in the 200m Dash
Sydney Kearns  8th place in the 3200m Run
4 X 200 Relay of Emily Rosales, Jessie Johnson, Alyssa Coscino, and Taylor Estabrook 8th place
4 X 400 Relay of Molly O'Neill, Annie Amundsen, Jessie Bailey, and Aliyah Gunther  8th place
4 X 800 Relay of Molly O'Neill, Grace Ashby, Jessie Bailey, and Aliyah Gunther  8th place

Varsity:
Riley Ammenhauser 2nd place long jump, 2nd place triple jump, 2nd place high jump
MiKenna Robinson 2nd place 800m run
Corinna Pena 2nd place in the 1600m run
Jasmine  Kaur 5th place shot put
Keara Ginell 6th place in the 3200m run
Sithara Gajapala 7th place in pole vault
Zharia Brandon 6th place in the 55m hurdles
4 X 400 Relay of Maggie Bender, Corinna Pena, Keira Apeland, and Sofi Medina 5th place
4 X 800 Relay of Paige Hardy, Sofi Medina, Bella Gallo, and Emily Stine  6th place

Week of March 19th
Monday, March 19th: 2:45-5:00pm practice for all
Tuesday, March 20th: 2:45-5:00pm practice for all
Wednesday, March 21st: 5:30am-6:45 am practice for distance, sprinters, jumpers, hurdlers, and vaulters
Thursday, March 22nd: 2:45-5:00pm practice for all
Friday, March 23rd: 5:30am-6:45am practice for sprinters, jumpers, hurdlers, and vaulters    2:45-5:00pm practice for distance and throwers

Weather is changing...
Although it may not always seem like it is getting warmer, we are holding out hope Springlike weather will be here soon.  Therefore, we are asking that all athletes come to practice ready to workout either outdoors or indoors. The best plan is to have layers available in your lockers each day. If we are practicing outside and we want to meet outdoors, instead of our normal practice meeting area, there will be a note by the locker room telling you where to meet.

Outdoor Meets are coming soon!
Our first all-comer's outdoor meet will be April 4th at home against Naperville North.  In order to prepare for this first meet, please sign up for this meet through this Google link.  https://goo.gl/forms/69aLBF9V7sFiwMfz1

Remember, we take away the 55m dash and 55m hurdles and add 100m dash, 4 X 100m Relay, discus, and 300m. Also, since we are competing outdoors, we suggest having a long sleeve white shirt and black running tights available to wear at the meets.

Help needed at our three home meets.

If you can help out with concessions (we promise you will still be able to see your athlete compete!), please cut and paste the following link into your browser.

Other help..
We can also use help with our field events and timing. If you can help at the April 4 home meet, please email me directly. We will need help around 4:15pm to 6:30pm
